Language Teaching Experience (this page)
My career as a language teacher did not begin as a career. It began as a reason to live overseas for a year, which became four years in Czechia and Serbia. During that time I discovered that loved learning language, could tolerate teaching an additional language better than most people, and had a great deal to learn about linguistics, language, and pedagogical approaches before I could get any better at it. That is why I went into the MA in Applied Linguistics program at Georgia State University as soon as I returned home to the Atlanta area. From the beginning of my MA, teaching courses in the Intensive English Program paid for my tuition and stipend, and that continued until I moved on to teaching content courses in applied linguistics during my PhD.
